Lesson Structure

• Single Lessons: 45 minutes

• Double Lessons: 1 hour 30 minutes
   

Short, focused lessons ensure learners remain engaged and able to concentrate, while double sessions allow for extended activities such as practical learning, project work, and in-depth subject exploration. This mix supports different learning styles and helps to sustain progress across the curriculum.

Tutor Time – Three Times a Day

​

Routine and structure are central to our approach. To provide stability and consistency, every day includes three tutor time sessions:

• Morning Tutor Time – setting the tone for the day, preparing for learning, and supporting student wellbeing.

• Midday Tutor Time – checking in with learners, providing encouragement, and re-focusing energy for the afternoon.

• End-of-Day Tutor Time – reflecting on achievements, consolidating the day’s learning, and setting goals for tomorrow.
   

These sessions provide young people with trusted points of connection, building strong relationships with staff and fostering a sense of belonging.
 

Reading, Reflection & Retrieval

We place a strong emphasis on literacy and personal growth. Our timetable includes:

• Reading time to build confidence, fluency, and comprehension.

• Reflection time to encourage learners to think about their progress, set goals, and develop resilience.

• Regular intervention sessions focusing on retrieval practice, helping students strengthen their memory, embed knowledge, and close any gaps in understanding.
   

This combination ensures that learning is not only accessible in the moment but also retained and built upon over time.
 

A Balanced Day
